One night while driving home our six year old son, Jordan, asked his daddy a question. "Dad, if everyone has a mommy and daddy, how did it get started?" So my husband, Jason, told Jordan the story of Adam and Eve. About how men were designed by God out of the dust, and how women were designed out of Adam's rib. Then Jason did something I didn't expect him to. He told the other side, what other people believe. He told Jordan that there are some people who believe that God didn't create us. That people believe that we started as a cell, and from there became fish, dogs, cats, gorillas then humans.
At this point, my son then asked "They believe that people were born from gorillas?" Jason Answered "Yes, they believe that Gorillas gave birth to Humans". Then, as if we were standing inside a comic book, my son started laughing and giggling and belly laughing very hard. Jordan thought that what we just told him was the goofiest thing anyone had ever said to him. So, we all started laughing. Evolution really does sound ridiculous when seen through a child's eyes. The basic's of each side were told and my 6 year old son was able to see how ridiculous the evolution theory is. We even went a little futher in the conversation to explain the evolution theory a little more, and he couldn't stop cracking up. He didn't see the connection of how cats can produce dogs or fish can produce birds or bugs can produce rats. It just doesn't add up to him. And for that I'm thankful. I'm thankful that God made our design so simple that a 6 year old understands it. Still to this day, Jordan laughs everytime he thinks of the crazy notion of humans being born from gorillas.
